Contemporary coffee tables can seem cold compared to a well-maintained and cared for antique.
Be aware of the two types of antique coffee tables. That's right, there are two kinds. One is a real antique and the other is a faux antique.

They can be hard to tell apart because they both will look like authentic antique furniture.

The true different between the faux antique and the real antique is that the real antique is authentic (obviously) and the faux antique looks authentic because it is chemically treated.

There is also usually a difference in price.

Antique faux tables will oftentimes be much less expensive than an actual antique coffee table. But just like all furniture, you have your exceptions.

I have found a few faux antique tables that were astronomically priced. I mean they were so expensive that I almost fainted!

Where To Look For Great Antiques

There are many places you can look to find a great antique table. It does require a bit of patience but if you really want one it's a small price to pay to find the perfect table.

Here are some places to begin looking:

o Estate auctions. You can usually find these advertised in your local newspaper. Also check your local yellow pages for auctioneers to find out about upcoming auctions. Sometimes auctions are a great place to find great antique furniture at reasonable prices.

o Goodwill or a second-hand store.

o Yard sales and garage sales. Larger garage and yard sales are usually advertised in the newspaper so you can find them there (be early because it's first come first serve!).

o Local antique stores (if you don't mind paying a lot more).

o Ebay. But be wary of who you are purchasing from. Make sure they have a great rating with many satisfied customers!
